Call for Volunteers
While HAFF takes center stage each November, the festival also hosts inspiring events throughout the year that promote health and wellness through the cinematic arts nationwide. HAFF volunteers are the heart of our organization and play a vital role in the success of both our year-round programming and the annual Film Festival. We take great pride in building a Volunteer Team that is as diverse, vibrant, and inclusive as the stories we showcase on screen.
Join us as a volunteer at conferences, screenings, and community outreach events across the country!

During the Film Festival, there are a variety of volunteer roles available. Which role is the perfect fit for you?
Usher:
Perfect for first-time volunteers or those with strong customer service skills! Ushers are the welcoming face of HAFF, helping organize guests, answer questions, scan festival passes and tickets, and ensure every attendee enjoys a smooth and memorable festival experience.
Lead Usher:
Ideal for volunteers with previous experience at our Festival or similar events. Lead Ushers coordinate usher teams, delegate tasks, implement Festival protocols, assist guests with more complex needs, carefully time Q&A sessions, and report incidents to Festival staff. Lead Ushers may also have the exciting opportunity to introduce films when needed.
Party Host:
(For volunteers ages 21+) Party Hosts help manage entry for Festival celebrations by welcoming approved guests and selling party tickets when appropriate. Hosts may also check guest IDs as needed. This role is performed at the entrance of party venues and may require standing or being outside for extended periods. Please dress accordingly. As a Party Host, remember you are part of the event team helping create a fantastic experience for all guests.
Production Volunteer:
Production Volunteers play a key role behind the scenes. A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required to assist with transporting, setting up, and taking down HAFF banners and materials. You will work closely with the HAFF Production Manager to ensure every Festival venue is properly prepared and fully equipped.
Box Office Volunteer:
Box Office Volunteers assist the HAFF Box Office Team at Festival headquarters and often serve as the first impression for Festival guests. Responsibilities include greeting guests, organizing merchandise, distributing filmmaker bags, and helping staff assign Festival credentials when needed. Traffic levels vary, so this role is ideal for volunteers who are flexible, organized, and comfortable taking direction.
Driver:
Drivers are essential to the Festival’s success, transporting our valued out-of-town guests—typically between the airport and hotels. This role is perfect for volunteers who enjoy one-on-one interactions and spending time on the road. Drivers must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable, clean vehicle. Mileage must be recorded during shifts and reported to HAFF staff.
Operations Volunteer:
These limited shifts typically take place at HAFF offices before the Festival begins. Responsibilities include organizing merchandise, assembling filmmaker bags, labeling Festival credentials, and completing other simple but essential tasks that help the Festival run smoothly.
